Spending the better part of the past decade cultivating non-profit organizations, I am continuously searching for creative opportunities to engage others in the act of giving. In today’s world, we live 15 seconds at a time and are always running late. This can often lead to the impossibility of giving to others, especially when it feels like there isn’t even time for lunch. It is an unfortunate reality of the world we live in, and worse yet, it makes gathering donors, supporters, or volunteers for even the best of causes incredibly problematic. These truths have led me to create a solution, SHOP143.

143 was what my Mom always used to page me. Yes, I said page me! It was the cool thing if you were born in the early eighties and entering your high school years. 143 was obviously pager code for “I Love You”. My pager was only on half the time, that’s all I could afford, but man there was no better feeling than telling my friends to “hold on, I got a page”. Ninety-nine percent of the time, it was my Mom, but you get the idea.

I’ve always remembered that feeling and wanted to create something with the numbers 143. That time has finally come. SHOP143 is going to give all of my friends, shoppers, and charities that same feeling I got when I got a page, LOVE. So if you donate or make a purchase, realize that simple action alone is making the planet we share just a little bit better.

My journey to this point has been a wild one. I’m sure like all of you, I started out young and ready to conquer the world. Well, I got half way down that path and realized I didn’t like the view. A trip to another part of the globe to serve others gave me more than I could have ever imagined. An opportunity to give turned into moments gained and a feeling I will chase forever. This life isn’t all about me and the second I figured that out, my life changed forever.

Giving to another person and not wanting or expecting anything in return is the life I pursue everyday. A mentor of mine once told me “Give it all away and you’ll never wish for anything”. It seems like an obtuse and unrealistic statement, but the more I live in this space, the more truthful it becomes. So to my family, friends, and anyone else who is still reading this, I hope SHOP143 gives you that feeling I search for everyday. That feeling of helping another, loving another, and striving to be the best version of myself.
